ABOUT ALAN
ALAN P. SMITH, LCSW-R
Mr. Smith has worked over 35 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, Registered in New York State) specializing in working with children and adolescents, but has also worked extensively with individuals, couples and their families. He has worked to address a variety of issues including but not limited to, ADHD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, divorce and serious mental health diagnoses. His commitment as a therapist has always been to achieve results in a safe environment for all his clients.
His treatment approach will be tailored to your specific needs. This could range from insight oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy or a very pragmatic approach, such as a behavioral treatment plan with the emphasis on your goals in treatment and how to attain them. His passion has been helping people becoming clear in what they want in life and realizing their full potential.
His career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker has spanned from formal work settings with children and teenagers and developing adult men’s groups, to working as an Adjunct Professor of Sociology helping others on their path to becoming future counselors. His private practice was started in New Hartford, New York over 20 years ago. He will remain an active counselor in New York by working with clients via telephone and through HIPPA compliant, online therapy solutions. In 2014 he opened an office in Melbourne, Florida and enjoyed meeting and working with many new individuals and families in the Brevard County area. In 2020, the office was permanently closed and he has moved his practice completely online through HIPPA compliant telehealth services, as well as, limited in person sessions within the area.
He obtained his Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and is a professional member in good standing with the National Association of Social Workers, Florida Chapter. He is licensed in the state of Florida and New York.
When he’s not “in session” you may be able to catch him on the golf course, traveling and enjoying the local eatery’s, playing a mean game of Mexican train dominos, or spending quality time with his family and friends. Lately, he’s been working on giving back by sharing his expertise in mental health issues.
